Portland Head Light
Mission
Located in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Portland Head Light is the state's oldest lighthouse, authorized by George Washington in 1790 and first lit on January 10, 1791. The lighthouse is situated in Fort Williams Park, a 90-acre park that once served as a military fort during WWI and WWII. In 1993, the property was deeded to the Town. The United States Coast Guard maintains the actual light and the fog signal, but the remainder of the property is managed by the Town of Cape Elizabeth.
About Us
Staffing the museum and gift shop with volunteers increases the gross revenue. 100% of the profits go exclusively and directly toward maintaining and preserving the lighthouse.
While the park is open year round, the museum and gift shop are open daily from Memorial Day - Indigenous Peoples Day 10 am - 4 pm.
