    For the last 20 years, Brenda Lawrence has served as an elected official in the City of Southfield. In 2001, Lawrence became the first female and first African-American Mayor of Southfield. She was resoundingly re-elected three times. She is a Democrat, and is currently running for the United States Congress in Michigan’s 14th District.
