  • Mission

We gather, preserve, and uplift the Black roots of salsa while creating community-centered spaces rooted in belonging, joy, and cultural pride.

    About Us

AfroSabor is a dance culture organization rooted in Black joy, identity, and belonging. Salsa is our medium—but culture is our message. Based in New York City, AfroSabor exists to create a cultural home for Black dancers within Afro-Latin and Caribbean traditions, where Blackness is not an afterthought but the heartbeat of the space.

As the city experiences a cultural shift, dancers are seeking authenticity over aesthetics. After decades of erasure of Black roots within Afro-Latin culture—and the loss of Black communal spaces following the pandemic—many Black dancers returned to salsa environments that felt disconnected from lineage, identity, and belonging. AfroSabor emerged to fill that void, offering a consistent Black-centered cultural space where joy is shared, community is intentional, and belonging is never conditional.

Our work is culture-first and community-based. We believe salsa is communal—a nonverbal conversation between partners and a living connection to the ancestors whose movement traditions shaped the dance. Belonging creates better dancers, stronger community, and truer culture. We honor Afro-diasporic lineage, keep credit where it is due, and build spaces where culture always comes before choreography. We are building more than events—we are cultivating a living culture, grounded in what our ancestors have built and focused on what we will collectively build next.
