Description
Balakun is a non-profit that supports Ukrainians — particularly those in Ukraine and defending it — by connecting them with global volunteer mentors and giving access to language learning, practical skills, and international opportunities. Balakun started small — one person trying to help a friend on the front line access language support. It's since grown into a global community of over 2,000 mentor matches across 70+ countries, still run entirely by volunteers giving their time because they believe in it.
We're looking for someone who'd enjoy helping us build relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, putting together budgets, and making sure our reporting is solid. Balakun is registered as a nonprofit (forening) in Norway, so we'd especially love to connect with someone based there, or who knows their way around Norwegian nonprofit rules and reporting — but if you've got solid nonprofit finance or fundraising experience from elsewhere, we'd still love to hear from you.
What this might look like
- Helping us find and build relationships with corporate sponsors
- Helping put together and sharing impact reports that help sponsors and donors see what their support actually makes possible
- Supporting our annual reporting and Norwegian nonprofit requirements
- Helping build simple, realistic budgets for specific projects or grant applications
- Lending a hand with everyday bookkeeping
Why people stick around
Most of our volunteers say the same thing: this is one of the more meaningful things they've done, because it's a real, tangible way to stand with Ukraine. You might not be mentoring students directly in this role, but the sponsors you bring in and the budgets you help shape are what keep that mentoring possible at all.
