Role Summary:
The Volunteer Data Scientist (AI Agents) will support the design, development, and optimization of AI-powered agentic systems that enhance the Foundation's operations, research, and decision-making. This role focuses on building intelligent workflows, integrating large language models (LLMs), and applying data science techniques to automate processes, improve knowledge management, and generate actionable insights that advance our climate and sustainability initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and optimize AI agents and agentic workflows to support organizational programs and operations.
- Build and evaluate data-driven models that improve decision-making, research, and operational efficiency.
- Integrate large language models (LLMs), APIs, and external data sources into intelligent agent systems.
- Develop data pipelines, analyze structured and unstructured datasets, and generate actionable insights.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities where AI agents can automate workflows and enhance productivity.
- Document methodologies, model performance, and best practices to support scalable AI implementation.
Requirements:
- Background in Data Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related field.
- Experience developing AI agents, agentic workflows, or LLM-powered applications.
- Proficiency in Python and data science libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, or Scikit-learn.
- Experience working with APIs, prompt engineering, and AI frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, or similar tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with attention to detail.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), vector databases, and knowledge management systems.
- Familiarity with cloud platforms, MLOps, or model deployment workflows.
- Experience working on nonprofit, environmental, or impact-driven projects.
- Understanding of climate, sustainability, or nature-based solutions and how AI can support environmental impact.
