    Description

    Bidii Yetu for Change

    Dear International Volunteers,

    Warm greetings from Bidii Yetu for Change, based in Kakuma Refugee Camp.

    We are delighted to extend an invitation to passionate and committed international volunteers to join our organization and contribute to meaningful community-driven initiatives. At Bidii Yetu for Change, we are dedicated to empowering vulnerable populations through sustainable development, education, and psychosocial support.

    Our programs are centered around five key areas:

    1. Early Childhood Education (Pre-School)
    2. Volunteers in this program will support early learning by assisting teachers, developing creative learning materials, and fostering a safe and nurturing environment for young children. Experience in early childhood education or child development is highly desirable.
    3. Environmental Conservation
    4. This activity focuses on promoting environmental awareness, tree planting, and climate resilience. Volunteers will participate in community tree planting, educating the community, and sustainability projects. A background in environmental studies or related fields is an added advantage.
    5. Permaculture
    6. Volunteers will help design and implement sustainable agricultural practices to improve food security. Responsibilities include training community members, supporting garden projects, and promoting eco-friendly farming techniques. Knowledge of permaculture or agriculture is preferred.
    7. Psychosocial Support
    8. This program aims to support mental health and emotional well-being within the community. Volunteers will assist in organizing group sessions, recreational activities, and providing basic counseling support under supervision. Also you will participate in child art therapy Backgrounds in psychology, social work, or counseling are highly valued.
    9. Community Development and Engagement
    10. Volunteers will contribute to community mobilization, project coordination, and capacity-building activities across all programs. Strong communication and intercultural skills are essential.

    Volunteer Responsibilities:

    • Actively participate in program implementation and daily activities
    • Collaborate with local staff and community members
    • Respect cultural diversity and uphold ethical standards
    • Provide regular feedback and reports on activities
    • Support innovation and continuous improvement within programs

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    • Minimum age of 18 years and above
    • Relevant academic background or practical experience in one of the program areas
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
    • Ability to work in challenging environments with limited resources
    • Flexibility, creativity, and a positive attitude
    • Fluency in English (additional languages are an asset)

    Instructions:

    Thank you for your interest in joining Bidii Yetu for Change in Kakuma Refugee Camp. To ensure a smooth and effective application process, please carefully follow the instructions below:

    1. Application Submission

    Interested volunteers are required to submit the following documents:

    • A motivation letter explaining your interest in volunteering and preferred program area (Early Childhood Education, Environmental Conservation, Permaculture, Psychosocial Support, or Community Development)
    • At least one professional or academic reference
    1. Application Review Process

    All applications will be reviewed by our coordination team. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a virtual interview to assess suitability, skills, and alignment with our mission.

    1. Commitment Period

    Selected volunteers are expected to commit to how to help the organization and the community. Longer commitments are highly encouraged to ensure continuity and impact.

    1. Pre-Arrival Preparation

    Successful applicants will receive an orientation package with important information, including:

    • Overview of Kakuma Refugee Camp and working conditions
    • Code of conduct and safeguarding policies
    • Health, safety, and security guidelines
    • Required vaccinations and travel documentation
    1. Arrival and Onboarding

    Upon arrival, volunteers will undergo an in-person orientation and be introduced to the team and community. A schedule and specific responsibilities will be assigned based on your skills and program area.

    1. Accommodation and Living Arrangements

    Volunteers should be prepared for modest living conditions. Information regarding accommodation, meals, and local transport will remain the responsibility of the volunteer.

    1. Code of Conduct

    All volunteers are expected to:

    • Respect local culture, traditions, and community values
    • Maintain professionalism and ethical behavior at all times
    • Adhere to organizational policies, including child protection and safeguarding standards
    • Promote teamwork and inclusivity
    1. Reporting and Evaluation

    Volunteers are required to provide regular updates on their activities and a final report at the end of their placement. Feedback is essential for improving our programs and impact.
