    Description

    Volunteer to Assure Rights & Well-Being of Adults with Cognitive Disabilities

    Do you enjoy meeting new people?

    Would you like to make an impact on the life of an adult with cognitive disabilities?

    Yes? Then let's chat!

    Guardian Partners is a growing nonprofit dedicated to ensuring the dignity, safety and rights of those who have been placed under a court appointed guardianship. We train volunteers to meet with adults diagnosed with cognitive impairments; to interview their guardians and make recommendations to the Probate Court as needed. Volunteers offer short-term, limited investigation, interviewing, and resource sharing to adults and their families. Volunteer Case Monitors are at the heart of our mission to keep vulnerable Oregonians safe and thriving. You'll be given training upfront and ongoing support to be successful as a volunteer Monitor.

    Once assigned a guardianship case, you'll:

    • Review the history of the case
    • Meet with the Protected Person and the Guardian, interview professionals involved;
    • Write a report using the Guardian Partners report form
    • Guardian Partners staff will share resources and assist volunteers with determining if any recommendation is needed
    • Upon your report being filed, your involvement in the case is complete. Usually, each case takes around 6 weeks.

    When we ask current volunteers what leads them to continue volunteering with Guardian Partners, they cite the ability to make a meaningful impact in people's lives. No specific professional background is required; qualities we look for our volunteers include integrity, strong communication skills, and a willingness to work with with diverse populations and communication styles.

    Our volunteers usually spend 1-3 hours a week on volunteering and volunteering is flexible to a variety of schedules. Volunteers receive mileage reimbursement, thorough training, continuing education, and ongoing support from Guardian Partners staff. Guardian Partners requires volunteers to review at least 10 cases.

    We look forward to meeting you soon!
