    Description

    Safe Perch Exotic Avian Rescue is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Grant Writer to help us grow our impact and secure funding for the parrots and exotic birds in our care. We are a foster-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit in North Georgia focused on rescuing, rehabilitating, educating, and responsibly rehoming exotic birds.

    This volunteer role is ideal for someone who believes in animal welfare, nonprofit growth, and meaningful community impact. The Grant Writer will help identify grant opportunities, draft strong and compelling proposals, assist with letters of inquiry, and help organize materials needed for submissions. Funding priorities may include veterinary care, foster support, cages and supplies, transport, educational outreach, and general operating support.

    Responsibilities may include:

    • Researching grant opportunities aligned with our mission
    • Drafting and editing grant proposals, applications, and supporting narratives
    • Assisting with grant calendars, deadlines, and submission tracking
    • Helping organize organizational documents and program information for funders
    • Collaborating with rescue leadership to gather stories, needs, and program details
    • Assisting with follow-up reporting when needed

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Strong writing, editing, and research skills
    • Experience with grant writing, nonprofit development, fundraising, or communications is preferred
    • Interest in animal rescue, avian welfare, or small nonprofit growth
    • Organized, dependable, and able to meet deadlines
    • Ability to work independently and communicate clearly

    This is a volunteer position with flexible hours and remote-friendly work. We are looking for someone who wants to make a real difference by helping us build a stronger future for birds in need.

    Please answer the screening questions as thoroughly as possible. If you have prior experience in grant writing, nonprofit development, research, fundraising, or professional writing, we encourage you to highlight that experience. Strong writing ability, attention to detail, and reliability are especially important for this role.

    This opportunity is primarily remote and flexible, with work assigned based on current grant needs and deadlines. We welcome both experienced grant writers and strong volunteer applicants with transferable writing and research skills.
