    Volunteer Job Description: Trip Chaperone

    Role Summary

    Trip Chaperones support staff members during off-site trips by helping supervise residents and children, ensuring safety, and assisting with logistics. This role helps create a smooth, enjoyable, and well-organized outing for everyone involved.

    Scheduling & Commitment

      • This is a flexible volunteer role
      • Volunteers may choose when they are available to help
      • Each month, volunteers will receive a text message with upcoming trip details, including where the group is going, dates, times, and when help is needed
      • Trips typically take place on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
      • Please arrive 5–10 minutes early when you sign up for a trip

    Key Responsibilities

      • Assist the staff member in supervising the group and ensuring no one wanders off
      • Help keep track of residents, children, and belongings during outings
      • Drive the organization’s 12-passenger van or another vehicle (please notify staff if you are not comfortable driving)
      • Offer support to moms with children or babies—ask before helping
      • Help maintain a positive, calm, and respectful environment throughout the trip
      • Follow all staff instructions and safety guidelines

    General Expectations & Guidelines

      • Arrive on time and be prepared for the day
      • Wear comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing or jackets
      • Bring a bagged lunch (no energy drinks, please)
      • Do not take photos of residents or children
      • If you need to cancel at the last minute, please call 603-692-3100 ext. 7 to notify the staff on duty
      • Be flexible, patient, and ready to help where needed
      • Have fun and enjoy spending time with the group!

    Volunteer Boundaries & Conduct

      • No Purchases or Promises: Volunteers may not buy items for residents or promise to buy anything
      • Maintain Boundaries: Do not share personal contact information with residents
      • Appropriate Conversation: Do not share personal problems or private matters with residents

    Qualifications

      • Reliable and punctual
      • Comfortable working with women and children
      • Valid driver’s license (if driving)
      • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods
