Position Type: Volunteer / Part-Time (Flexible Hours)

    About Us:

Delta Rising Foundation accelerates science-based, systemic solutions while building sustainable systems for long-term community impact. We support initiatives in climate solutions, regenerative design, resilience, and sustainability, and are growing our team to strengthen program management and operational impact.

    Role Summary:

The Volunteer Carbon Project Development Specialist will support the design, development, and advancement of high-integrity carbon projects focused on nature-based and carbon removal solutions. This role will contribute to project feasibility, methodology selection, documentation, and implementation planning for initiatives involving one or more Nature-based Solutions (NbS) project types, including biochar, enhanced rock weathering, or forestry. The specialist will help ensure projects are technically robust, aligned with recognized carbon standards, and positioned to deliver measurable climate and environmental benefits.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Support the development and design of carbon projects across one or more NbS project types, including biochar, enhanced rock weathering, or forestry.
    • Conduct technical assessments and feasibility analyses for potential carbon project opportunities.
    • Assist in preparing project documentation, baseline assessments, monitoring plans, and technical reports.
    • Research and evaluate applicable carbon methodologies and standards for project development and certification.
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate scientific, environmental, and operational considerations into project planning.
    • Support project implementation strategies and contribute to continuous improvement of carbon project development processes.

    Requirements:

    • Background in environmental science, forestry, climate science, engineering, natural resource management, sustainability, or a related field.
    • Experience developing or supporting carbon projects involving at least one NbS project type: biochar, enhanced rock weathering, or forestry.
    • Strong analytical, research, and technical writing skills with attention to detail.
    • Ability to interpret scientific literature, technical guidance, and carbon methodologies.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Familiarity with voluntary carbon market standards and methodologies (e.g., Verra, American Carbon Registry, Gold Standard, Puro.earth, Isometric, or similar).
    • Experience with carbon accounting, greenhouse gas quantification, or lifecycle assessment.
    • Knowledge of Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) frameworks.
    • Experience working on nonprofit, environmental, climate, or impact-driven projects.

    Why Volunteer with Us:

Your expertise will help develop credible, science-based carbon projects that accelerate climate action and ecosystem restoration. By supporting innovative Nature-based Solutions, you will play a key role in advancing high-integrity carbon initiatives that generate measurable environmental impact and contribute to a more sustainable future.
