    Description

    The Organization

The SEPTA Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to make public transit the preferred method of transportation among young people in the Southeastern Pennsylvania region. This goal is pursued through advocacy, education, and outreach. We strive to center young voices in conversations about the future of transit in our region by working closely with and advising SEPTA, educating young riders with online content, researching transit legislation, amplifying the stories of young transit riders, advocating for UPass on college campuses, and consulting with elected officials.

    The Role

We are seeking a passionate young person to join our Online Engagement Committee. Online Engagement works to promote the YAC’s brand and mission amongst target demographics in a hyperspecific geography. As part of this team, this position will focus on managing the various social media accounts the YAC has across multiple platforms and support the various other needs of the committee.

This role is 90% virtual with the option to attend our biweekly meetings in person and the expectation that the candidate will be able to attend rare, mandatory in person meetings no more than once every 2 months on average.

    The Responsibilities

    In order of importance

    • Publish daily content across all current (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, and Spotify) and future (Tik Tok, Youtube and Threads) YAC digital media platforms
    • Create promotional graphics, flyers, and reports using Canva
    • Coordinate with other YAC committees for the promotion of ad hoc projects and events
    • Support the publishing of the YAC’s “On Track” quarterly newsletter
    • Conduct regular social listening to monitor transit related developments and opportunities for the YAC to engage in community outreach
    • Research creators for potential relationships

    The Qualifications

    • Social media experience mainly on twitter and instagram
    • Graphic design experience with canva
    • Short form video or audio content experience
    • Witty sense of humor
    • Team player
    • Ability to consistently meet deadlines in an asynchronous work environment

    ALL APPLICANTS MUST

    • LIVE IN, ATTEND SCHOOL IN, OR WORK IN THE SEPTA SERVICE AREA
    • BE BETWEEN 18-25 YEARS OLD
    • WILLING TO COMMIT AN AVERAGE OF 5 HOURS A WEEK TO THE YAC IN ADDITION TO ATTENDING BI-WEEKLY MEETING ON TUESDAYS @ 8PM

    Compensation

The YAC does not offer monetary compensation. Members have the opportunity to gain new skills, rise to leadership positions, network with important transit advocacy leaders and decision makers, and have a real measurable impact on the future of transit in the Southeastern Pennsylvania Region.
