    Childcare Volunteer

    Volunteer Job Description: Childcare Volunteer

    Position Overview

Childcare Volunteers support mothers at Lydia’s House of Hope by providing safe, attentive, and engaging care for their children during scheduled programs. Volunteers help create a positive and welcoming environment where children can play, learn, and feel secure.

All volunteers 16 years or older must complete a background check prior to volunteering.

    Volunteer Schedule

      • Fridays: 5:30–6:15 PM
      • Saturdays: 10:00 AM–2:00 PM

Each month, volunteers will receive a text message with childcare needs for the upcoming month. Volunteers may choose the dates and times they are available to serve.

    Responsibilities

    Childcare Volunteers are expected to:

      1. Arrive 5 minutes early to your scheduled shift.
      2. Dress in comfortable, appropriate clothing suitable for childcare.
      3. Bring a lunch for Saturday shifts.
      4. Keep children safe at all times—maintain constant supervision.
      5. Actively engage with each child through play and interaction.
      6. Come prepared with a plan for activities during your shift.
      7. Have fun—play games, sing songs, imagine, color, and explore creativity.
      8. Clean up the playroom before leaving.
      9. If a child is acting up at the playground, a staff member or volunteer will walk the child home so the mother can handle discipline.

    Please Do Not

    Childcare Volunteers should not:

      1. Wear revealing clothing (use the 4 B’s guideline: no boobs, belly, butt, or backs showing).
      2. Use your phone or take photos during your shift.
      3. Discipline a child—this is always the parent’s responsibility.
      4. Use inappropriate language, including swearing.
      5. Smoke or vape anywhere on the property.
      6. Bring food or drinks into the playroom—water only is permitted.
