    Description

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) – Volunteer Executive Role

    Chief Financial Officer (CFO)

    The Donovan’s Venom

Remote (U.S. or Canada) | Executive Leadership | Volunteer

We’re Not Just Building Programs — We’re Building Sustainability

The Donovan’s Venom is creating a scalable ecosystem to expand access to fine arts and music education.

But impact without financial structure doesn’t last.

We are seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to ensure what we build is not only impactful — but sustainable, accountable, and built to grow.

This is a build-and-steward role for someone who understands that financial leadership is about more than numbers — it’s about protecting and enabling the mission.

    The Role

The CFO is responsible for the financial foundation of the organization.

You will lead financial strategy, planning, and oversight — ensuring resources are managed effectively, risks are understood, and the organization is positioned for long-term sustainability.

This role sits at the intersection of finance, strategy, governance, and growth, providing the structure that allows the mission to scale responsibly.

    What You’ll Own

    Financial Strategy & Sustainability

      • Develop and lead the organization’s financial strategy
      • Align financial planning with growth, programs, and partnerships
      • Ensure long-term financial sustainability and resource optimization

    Budgeting & Financial Planning

      • Build and manage budgets and financial forecasts
      • Support leadership with scenario planning and financial insights
      • Monitor performance and guide decision-making with data

    Financial Reporting & Transparency

      • Establish clear, accurate, and timely financial reporting
      • Build dashboards and reporting frameworks for leadership and Board
      • Ensure transparency across stakeholders, donors, and partners

    Governance, Compliance & Controls

      • Ensure compliance with nonprofit financial regulations (501(c)(3))
      • Build and maintain financial policies, controls, and audit readiness
      • Promote accountability and ethical financial practices

    Grant & Fund Management

      • Oversee financial tracking and reporting of grants and funding
      • Align funding strategies with financial planning
      • Ensure proper use and reporting of restricted funds

    Risk Management & Financial Oversight

      • Identify financial risks and build mitigation strategies
      • Monitor cash flow, sustainability, and financial health
      • Advise leadership on financial implications of decisions

    Executive Collaboration

      • Partner with leadership to align financial strategy with operations and growth
      • Support fundraising, partnerships, and program development
      • Serve as a key financial advisor to leadership and Board

    Who This Is For

This role is for someone who:

      • Thinks beyond budgets and understands financial strategy
      • Can build structure in a growing organization
      • Balances mission impact with financial discipline
      • Sees risk early and plans ahead
      • Understands how to fund and sustain growth

    Qualifications

    Required

      • 5+ years in finance, accounting, or financial leadership roles
      • Experience with financial planning, budgeting, and reporting
      • Strong understanding of financial systems and controls

    Preferred

      • Experience in nonprofit finance or grant management
      • CPA, CFA, or equivalent certification
      • Experience supporting scaling or early-stage organizations

    Commitment

      • 10–20 hours per week
      • Flexible schedule
      • Fully remote

    What You’ll Gain

      • Executive-level influence over financial strategy and sustainability
      • Opportunity to build financial systems from the ground up
      • Direct impact on mission growth and long-term viability
      • Leadership visibility and strategic involvement

    Application Requirements (Read Carefully)

    To ensure alignment:
