    Description

About Gender Freedom Society GFS is a transgender-led nonprofit focused on peer support, advocacy, education, and community building for trans and gender-diverse people. We are a 100% volunteer-run organization—from our Executive Director to our daily advocates.

Role Summary We are looking for a Volunteer Onboarding Specialist to serve as the primary architect of our new volunteer experience. In this role, you will be a volunteer supporting other volunteers. You are the first point of contact for anyone looking to join our mission, ensuring they feel seen, supported, and successfully integrated into our team.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Initial Outreach: Respond to new volunteer inquiries and applications with warmth and professionalism.
    • Screening & Interviews: Lead 15-minute introductory "vibe check" calls to ensure applicants align with GFS values.
    • Onboarding Flow: Manage the transition from "Interested" to "Active" by coordinating background checks (where applicable), NDAs, and orientation materials.
    • Database Management: Keep our volunteer roster and Google Drive folders organized and up-to-date.
    • Culture Building: Act as a peer mentor for new arrivals during their first 30 days to ensure they have the tools they need to succeed.

    Ideal Qualifications

    • People-First Mentality: Exceptional communication skills and the ability to make strangers feel like part of the team.
    • Organization Mastery: You love a good spreadsheet and have experience with Google Workspace.
    • Commitment to Mission: Lived experience or a deep understanding of the trans and gender-diverse community.
    • Self-Starter: Since we are 100% remote and volunteer-led, you should be comfortable managing your own tasks and deadlines.

    Time Commitment & Benefits

    • Commitment: Approx. 2–3 hours per week (8–12 hours per month).
    • Leadership: Gain experience in HR/People Ops and nonprofit management.
    • Community: Join a close-knit group of advocates dedicated to gender liberation.
