    Directions

SEVA Travelers offers four host organizations to choose from in Costa Rica, located in the vibrant capital of San José and the cloud-covered mountains of San Isidro. These placements provide volunteers the opportunity to contribute to initiatives focused on environmental conservation, sustainable development, gender equality, and community empowerment. Volunteers will collaborate with impactful nonprofits that are building long-term organizational capacity through fundraising strategy, grant writing, and communications development, all while experiencing Costa Rica’s world-renowned biodiversity and culture of sustainability.

These vetted and verified NGOs include:

Latin American Sea Turtles (LAST) – San José

A conservation organization dedicated to protecting sea turtles and their habitats through research, environmental education, and community-based conservation. Volunteers will assist in developing fundraising strategies, writing grant proposals, and creating engaging marketing and social media campaigns to expand the organization’s reach and impact.

Rivers and Forests Alliance (RAFA) – San José

RAFA works to preserve and regenerate the Pacuare River Basin through reforestation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable ecotourism. Volunteers will support the organization in developing a strategic plan, strengthening board capacity, and creating a sustainable fundraising framework to ensure long-term growth and impact.

    Soy Niña – San José

A youth empowerment nonprofit that helps adolescent girls recognize their self-worth and potential through mentorship and educational programs. Volunteers will help diversify funding streams, grow the organization’s monthly donor program, and design a program for international student engagement to build financial sustainability.

Cloudbridge Nature Reserve – San Isidro

A nonprofit reserve focused on forest restoration, environmental research, and climate change education. Volunteers will assist in grant proposal writing for a remote sensing study aimed at improving understanding of forest succession, ecosystem health, and restoration effectiveness within the reserve.
