Details
Description
đź”´ Note for Applicants: This is an on-site international volunteer placement located in Accra, Ghana. This opportunity is AVAILABLE for ONLY INTERNATIONAL VOLUNTEERS and UNIVERSITY STUDENTS from Europe, America, Asia, Australia and Antarctica traveling to Ghana from abroad. Volunteers are responsible for their own flights and visa arrangements, accommodation and feeding.
We are seeking passionate, enthusiastic, and adaptable individuals to join our School Support Program as Teaching and Classroom Assistants. Educational settings in developing communities face unique resource constraints, large class sizes, and diverse learning needs. Your presence will directly alleviate these pressures, allowing local educators to deliver high-quality, individualized attention to their students.
Whether you are an aspiring educator looking for hands-on classroom management experience or a driven individual wanting to give back, this role offers a profound opportunity to shape young minds.
Key Responsibilities:
- Interactive Classroom Teaching: Assist primary or secondary school teachers in delivering core subjects including English, Mathematics, General Science, Geography, Computing, Global Studies, History and Creative Arts. Depending on your confidence level, you will have opportunities to lead lessons.
- Small-Group Support: Work closely with students who are falling behind or require extra help with reading, writing, and basic numeracy, ensuring no child is left behind.
- Extracurricular Enrichment: Plan, organize, and execute after-school clubs, sports activities, arts and crafts sessions, or music programs to foster holistic student development.
- Resource and Lesson Creation: Develop creative, low-cost educational materials, flashcards, and interactive games to make learning engaging and dynamic for the children.
- Cultural and Language Exchange: Bring a global perspective to the classroom, encouraging cultural sharing while respecting and integrating local teaching traditions and customs.
The Perfect Candidate
We are looking for individuals who bring energy, empathy, and a proactive mindset to our classrooms. You do not need a formal teaching degree to excel here—your attitude and willingness to learn are what matter most.
Qualities We Look For:
- Adaptable & Resilient: Comfortable working in resource-limited settings with a positive, problem-solving attitude.
- Excellent Communicator: Patient, encouraging, and capable of breaking down complex concepts for non-native English speakers.
- Creative Thinker: Able to design fun activities and teach effectively without relying heavily on high-tech classroom equipment.
- Culturally Sensitive: Open-minded, eager to learn about Ghanaian traditions, and respectful of local community norms.
- Team Player: Ready to collaborate closely with local teachers and fellow international volunteers.
Perks, Benefits & Rewards
We highly value the time, energy, and heart our volunteers invest in our programs. To ensure you feel supported, valued, and energized throughout your journey, we offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to maximize both your comfort and your experience:
- Immersive Cultural Excursions: Enjoy organized weekend trips and cultural activities—including traditional drumming and dance lessons, local language workshops (Twi), and visits to historic sites—allowing you to experience the true beauty of Ghana.
- Generous "Holiday" Allowance: We believe in a healthy balance. For every month of service, you will receive 5 fully flexible personal days to travel independently, relax, or explore neighboring regions.
- Comprehensive In-Country Support: From the moment you land, you are taken care of. We provide 24/7 emergency support, airport pick-ups, and safe, comfortable, vetted community accommodation.
- Skill Development & Career Acceleration: Gain unmatched, real-world experience in public speaking, intercultural communication, leadership, and crisis management.
- Official Certification & References: Upon successful completion of your placement, you will receive a formal certificate of service and a personalized letter of recommendation from our leadership team to boost your CV.
- Global Networking: Work alongside like-minded, passionate changemakers from all over the world, building a lifelong professional and personal network.
Program Costs & Transparency
As a grass-roots, non-profit initiative, our medical projects are entirely self-funded through volunteer contributions. Therefore, participants are required to pay an all-inclusive program fee.
What this covers: Every penny of this fee is accounted for, directly financing your secure accommodation, in-country orientation, airport logistics, and 24/7 field staff support. A portion of the fee is also directly reinvested into purchasing critical medical supplies (such as gloves, sanitizers, and delivery equipment) for the underfunded community clinics where you will be placed. Please note that personal flights, travel insurance, and medical visas are not covered.
Location: Ghana, West Africa (Specific community/region details provided upon acceptance).
What candidates should know about the location:
- Safety & Community: Ghana is widely recognized as one of the safest, most peaceful, and most welcoming countries in Africa. Our partner schools and volunteer accommodations are located in vibrant, secure, and close-knit communities where you will quickly feel at home.
- The Daily Environment: The role takes place in traditional, resource-constrained community schools. You will experience authentic local life, bustling markets, and warm hospitality, which offers a stark and beautiful contrast to a standard Western teaching environment.
- Commute & Transport: Your accommodation will be located within a reasonable distance from the school. Local transport options (such as shared taxis or tro-tros) are easily accessible, affordable, and part of the cultural experience, though many schools are within walking distance.
- Travel & Exploration: On weekends and during your flexible holiday days, your location serves as a perfect jumping-off point to explore Ghana’s breathtaking landscapes, including rainforest national parks, historic coastal castles, and beautiful beaches.
- In-Country Guidance: You will receive a full orientation upon arrival, and our local team is always available to assist you with navigating the area safely and confidently.
