    Description

Volunteer Tax Preparers & Community Volunteers — AGA VITA Tax Assistance Program

Alliance Growth Association (AGA) is recruiting volunteers for our upcoming IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program serving individuals and families in the Austin-area community.

AGA’s VITA program will provide free tax preparation assistance to eligible taxpayers while connecting community members with financial education and additional resources that can support greater financial stability.

No previous tax preparation experience is required for many volunteer positions. Training and guidance will be provided based on the volunteer role, and tax preparation volunteers will complete the applicable IRS VITA certification requirements before serving taxpayers.

We are building a diverse volunteer team that may include college and high school students, working professionals, retirees, experienced tax professionals, and community members who simply want to give back.

    Volunteer Roles

    • Volunteer Tax Preparers — Prepare federal income tax returns for eligible taxpayers after completing required IRS certification.
    • Intake & Interview Volunteers — Welcome taxpayers, assist with the intake process, and help ensure required documentation is available.
    • Greeters / Client Support Volunteers — Help manage check-in, answer general questions, and create a welcoming experience.
    • Financial Resource Volunteers — Connect taxpayers with appropriate community and financial resources.
    • Site Support Volunteers — Assist with scheduling, organization, technology, and day-to-day VITA site operations.
    • Outreach Volunteers — Help AGA connect with local communities, organizations, schools, and partners to increase awareness of free tax preparation services.

    Who We’re Looking For

We welcome dependable, service-minded individuals who are comfortable working with people from different backgrounds. Volunteers should demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, patience, and a commitment to serving the community.

Individuals with experience in tax preparation, accounting, finance, customer service, nonprofit work, business, or community outreach are especially encouraged to apply, but prior professional experience is not required for every role.

    Time Commitment

Volunteer opportunities will primarily take place during the 2027 tax filing season, with training and preparation beginning beforehand. Both recurring and select shift-based opportunities may be available depending on role and site needs.

    Why Volunteer With AGA?

Volunteers will have the opportunity to gain practical experience, develop valuable professional skills, serve their community, and become part of AGA's growing network of entrepreneurs, professionals, students, and community partners.

For students interested in accounting, finance, business, law, public service, or nonprofit careers, VITA can also provide meaningful hands-on community service experience.

Join AGA in making tax assistance more accessible while helping individuals and families keep more of what they earn and build stronger financial foundations.
