Volunteer Data Specialist (Dataset Team)

About Us:

Delta Rising Foundation accelerates science-based systemic solutions as we evolve the art of sustainable culture. We are forming a new Dataset Team to strengthen our data-driven decision-making and empower projects with reliable, actionable insights that advance our mission.

Key Responsibilities:

• Work directly with each of the four teams to understand their objectives, identify data gaps, and provide insights that drive progress.
• Create and maintain dependable data pipelines, implement clear SQL and Python transformations, and design intuitive dashboards that make insights accessible.
• Lay the groundwork for data quality, governance, and repeatability — including validation checks, schema tests, provenance tracking, and compliance with privacy and licensing laws.
• Develop self-serve datasets and reporting tools that allow teams to explore data independently, reducing bottlenecks and increasing decision speed.
• Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and leadership to define metrics, conduct tests, and translate results into meaningful business and product impact.
• Help establish the roles, tools, and processes that will evolve into a fully functioning Dataset Team supporting all aspects of the organization.

Requirements:

• Strong analytical foundation, ideally a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience with data pipelines, visualization, and analysis.
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, and dashboarding tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
• Familiarity with data validation, governance, documentation, and cross-team communication.
• Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative, mission-driven environment.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience developing scalable data systems from the ground up.
• Knowledge of metadata management and schema design.
• Interest in sustainability, ethical data use, and systems thinking.
