    About Chi-Care

Chi-Care is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to serving Chicago’s most vulnerable communities. Across 18 weekly outreach programs—including food security routes, wellness fairs, street medicine services with our mobile clinic, and harm-reduction outreach—we provide essential resources, compassionate care, and life-saving support to thousands of unhoused and underserved individuals each month.

    Role Overview

We are seeking a mission-driven Grant-Writing Volunteer to support Chi-Care’s growing programs by helping identify funding opportunities and draft compelling grant proposals. This role is ideal for someone who wants to use their writing, research, or nonprofit experience to make a meaningful impact on communities across Chicago.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Research local, state, federal, and foundation grant opportunities aligned with Chi-Care’s programs
    • Draft, edit, and proofread grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents
    • Assist with gathering narratives, data, and impact metrics from program teams
    • Maintain a grants calendar with deadlines, submission statuses, and reporting reminders
    • Collaborate with Chi-Care leadership to tailor proposals to funder guidelines
    • Support occasional grant reporting by helping compile stories, outcomes, and community impact

    Qualifications

    • Strong writing, editing, and research skills
    • Prior experience in grant writing preferred but not required
    • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently
    • Passion for social impact, public health, homelessness services, or community outreach
    • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills

    What You Gain

    • Hands-on nonprofit development and grant-writing experience
    • Direct contribution to expanding food security, mobile medical care, and harm-reduction services for Chicago’s most vulnerable populations
    • Mentorship and guidance from Chi-Care’s leadership team
    • Flexible scheduling and remote work options
    • Letters of recommendation upon successful service

    Time Commitment

Flexible—approximately 5–10 hours per month depending on grant cycles. More involvement is welcome for volunteers interested in deeper engagement.
