    About SmallSpark

SmallSpark is a nonprofit technology organization building care-focused IT support and technology equity for nonprofits, small businesses, schools and communities. Our four mission programs offer free, hands-on technology help for the people who need it most.

    Our Mission Programs

    • SparkLab (ages 13–24): Hands-on, age-appropriate technology learning that grows from foundational skills into practical IT experience, mentorship and career readiness. Includes workshops, cohort programs, real projects and career preparation.
    • SparkAssist (seniors): Patient, unhurried technology help for older adults, including residents of assisted living, independent living and senior communities. Topics include online safety, video calling, passwords and making devices easier to see and use. Family members are welcome.
    • SparkService (veterans): Support for veterans at any stage, from recently separated to decades out. We help find, organize and safely store the documents the VA asks for, and help with records, accounts and devices, in partnership with veteran-serving organizations.
    • SparkAccess (housing instability): Technology access and digital independence for people experiencing homelessness or housing instability. Delivered with shelters, day centers, libraries, housing organizations and workforce programs, it covers devices, connectivity, accounts, online services and job-search technology.

    About the role

We're looking for patient, friendly volunteers to help lead and support in-person sessions across our programs at community partner locations in Denver. Sessions are beginner-friendly and paced to each group. You can choose the programs and participants you'd most like to work with.

    Workshop Instructor

    • Lead or co-lead workshops using SmallSpark's curriculum and materials
    • Explain technology in plain, welcoming language for all skill levels
    • Adapt the pace and examples to each group, from teens to seniors
    • Share feedback with our team to help improve future sessions

    Tech Helper / Mentor

    • Give one-on-one, hands-on help with phones, laptops, accounts, passwords and everyday tasks
    • Help veterans organize and securely store important documents
    • Mentor SparkLab participants who are exploring tech skills and careers
    • Encourage participants and celebrate their progress

    What we're looking for

    • Comfortable with everyday technology (no IT background required)
    • Patient, kind and respectful toward people of every age, background and experience level
    • Clear communicator who's happy to explain things more than once
    • Teaching, tutoring, customer service or tech support experience is a plus for instructors
    • Reliable: shows up for the sessions you sign up for
    • Willing to complete a background check

    What you'll get

    • Training and onboarding before your first session
    • Verified volunteer hours and letters of reference
    • Teaching and mentoring experience in community technology
    • A chance to make technology less intimidating and more accessible in your community
