Volunteer at Glenner Town Square(r) - Be a Docent of Joy and Reminiscence
Bring joy and connection to life, step into the 1950s and help create meaningful moments for individuals living with dementia.
At George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s Family Centers, Inc.(r), we believe that memory is a powerful tool for connection. At our Town Square(r) location in Chula Vista, we’ve recreated a 1950s town to help participants living with dementia reminisce, engage, and find joy in familiar sights, sounds, and stories.
We’re currently seeking enthusiastic and compassionate volunteers to serve as docent-style guides throughout our 13 themed storefronts. Your presence and support will help participants explore the space, take part in activities, and feel welcomed, seen, and heard.
As a volunteer, you’ll:
Storefronts include:
Rosie’s Diner - Where casual conversations occur, BINGO, light baking, the jukebox resides, arts and crafts take place and music plays.
Gone Fishin’ Pub - We host light physical activities and games like pool, bowling, or karaoke and conversation about sports.
City Hall - You may assist staff with participant counsil meetings, creative writing, sorting and filing
Little Blue House - If you enjoy helping with simple tasks like folding laundry, knitting, and creating a cozy atmosphere
Library - Enjoy reading aloud, puzzles, storytelling, and calm interactions
Saucy’s Pet Shop - Comfortable around animals, engaging in conversation around fish, birds or various animals and possibly support during pet therapy visits
Museum - Interested in history or able to encourage storytelling around topics such as aviation, space, or military services and experiences
Silver Fox Barber & Beauty Shop - Enjoys chatting, sharing stories, and engaging in self-care-themed activities. If you enjoy vintage hair styles and fashion that's a plus
Pied Piper Movie Theatre - love movies, music, and supporting entertainment experiences; piano skills welcomed
