    Description

    Location: Remote

Position Type: Volunteer / Part-Time (Flexible Hours)

    About Us:

Delta Rising Foundation accelerates science-based, systemic solutions while building sustainable systems for long-term community impact. We support initiatives in climate solutions, regenerative design, resilience, and sustainability, and are growing our team to strengthen program management and operational impact.

    Role Summary:

The Architect / Architectural Designer (or Student) will support the translation of the BEE COOL concept into a cost-effective, modular, and globally deployable design. This role focuses on simplifying fabrication, reducing material and installation complexity, and ensuring the structure can be assembled by three adults while delivering core functions such as shade, integrated charging stations, and a green roof and/or wall system that supports energy and water collection and storage.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Develop and iterate architectural designs to create a simplified, cost-efficient version of the BEE COOL structure.
    • Produce fabrication-ready drawings, assembly guides, and modular design systems for international deployment.
    • Optimize material selection and structural systems for affordability, durability, and ease of transport.
    • Design for rapid installation by non-specialists (target: 3 adults, minimal tools, minimal time).
    • Integrate passive design strategies for shade, cooling, and environmental performance.
    • Collaborate with engineering and sustainability teams to incorporate energy generation/storage and water collection systems.
    • Ensure adaptability of designs across different climates, geographies, and local material availability.
    • Create visualizations and documentation to support prototyping, stakeholder communication, and fundraising.

    Requirements:

    • Background in architecture, architectural design, or currently pursuing a degree in architecture or a related field.
    • Experience with CAD and design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit, SketchUp, or similar).
    • Understanding of modular design, prefabrication, and/or design for assembly principles.
    • Basic knowledge of sustainable design strategies, including passive cooling, green roofs/walls, or off-grid systems.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Experience with parametric or computational design tools (e.g., Grasshopper).
    • Familiarity with lightweight structures, temporary architecture, or deployable systems.
    • Knowledge of renewable energy integration (solar, battery systems) and/or water harvesting systems.
    • Experience working on climate-focused, humanitarian, or mission-driven design projects.

    Why Volunteer with Us:

Your expertise will help translate an innovative climate concept into a real-world, scalable solution. You will play a key role in designing a globally deployable structure that advances sustainable infrastructure, supports climate resilience, and demonstrates how regenerative design can be practical, affordable, and impactful across diverse communities.
