AI Workshop Volunteer -- Helping small business owners with AI tools
Details
Description
Summary
Community Innovations Foundation is looking for friendly, AI-savvy volunteers to sit one-on-one with local small business owners and walk them through using tools like Google Gemini. No teaching experience needed: if you've used Gemini, ChatGPT, or similar tools to draft emails, brainstorm ideas, or analyze information, you have what it takes to make a real difference for a business owner who's just getting started.
About Community Innovations Foundation
Community Innovations Foundation supports our local community by bridging the gap between emerging technology and the people who can benefit from it most. Our AI for Small Businesses workshop series is designed to give business owners practical, hands-on experience with AI tools they can put to work right away and our volunteers are the heart of what makes that possible.
What you'll do
As a volunteer AI coach, you'll be paired with 2-3 small business owners during each workshop. You'll sit alongside them at their laptop and help them try out AI tools in real time, things like drafting customer emails, writing social media posts, summarizing documents, or brainstorming marketing ideas for their business. The workshop leader will guide the overall session; your role is to be the patient, encouraging person next to them who can answer questions, troubleshoot, and help them feel confident clicking around.
Schedule
Three Wednesdays: May 13, May 20, and May 27, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. We'd love volunteers who can commit to all three sessions for continuity with the business owners, but we welcome you even if you can only make one or two.
Location
In person in Costa Mesa, CA. Commute assistance is available. Let us know what you need and we'll work with you.
What we're looking for
Comfort using at least one AI chatbot tool (Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, or similar). A patient, encouraging manner with people who may be new to this technology. No formal teaching or tech background required.
