About Us
Inellas Restoration Center (IRC) provides a safe place where survivors of domestic violence can find healing, support, and empowerment to live lives free of abuse. Through our CCDE Live/Chat program, we meet survivors exactly where they are - delivering real-time, confidential, trauma-informed support.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and bilingual (English/Spanish) volunteer Domestic Violence Advocate to join our digital chat line. This critical role allows you to bridge the gap for Spanish-speaking survivors, ensuring they receive immediate, language-accessible crisis intervention and safety planning in their moments of greatest need.
By serving in this dual-advocate capacity, you will provide life-saving advocacy directly to both English- and Spanish-speaking survivors on a single, secure platform.
What You’ll Do
- Crisis Support: Respond to incoming chat communications from survivors, providing trauma-informed validation and immediate safety planning.
- Language Access: Confidently handle chats in both English and Spanish, removing language barriers for survivors seeking safety resources.
- Resource Connection: Guide survivors to essential community resources (shelters, legal services, medical support) without judgment or coercion.
- Maintain Safety: Document interactions in a secure, non-identifying manner in strict compliance with the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) and Illinois confidentiality laws.
Who You Are
- Bilingual: Fully fluent in both English and written Spanish.
- Experienced: You have prior experience in domestic violence advocacy, crisis hotline intervention, or survivor-centered care.
- Certified: Ideally holds an Illinois 40-hour Domestic Violence Certification (or is willing to complete it through our supported program).
- Technologically Secure: Reliable access to a password-protected computer and a secure, private, and distraction-free workspace.
