    Description

Be a Friendly Face for Adults in Our Community!

    NEW! Adult Group Library Liaison

College Hill Library is visited by many day programs for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These programs generally visit with 1-2 caregivers/drivers and 5-10 participating adults. Though we are very happy to welcome these groups into our space, their needs can sometimes overwhelm our service staff. The adults often need more individualized support in using our public computers, finding library materials, and doing activities like puzzles and crafts. We believe we could provide better service to these adults and to our entire community with the help of a library liaison volunteer during their peak weekday visit hours.

    Qualifications

    • Ability to move throughout the library building for extended periods of time.
    • Ability to lift, carry, and transport activity boxes, library materials, and equipment.
    • Ability to bend, reach, and retrieve materials from shelves at varying heights.
    • Sufficient visual and manual dexterity to assist with crafts, puzzles, and devices.

    SKILLS:

    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to provide welcoming, patient, and compassionate support to adults of varying abilities.
    • Ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with caregivers, participants, and library staff.
    • Comfort assisting adults with basic technology use, including public computers, internet searches, tablets, and digital library resources.
    • Adaptability and problem-solving skills to respond to participant needs in real time.
    • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with library staff.
    • Demonstrated sensitivity to individuals with cognitive, developmental, or sensory differences.
