Friday Weekly Shower & Resource Support – Central (Van Nuys)

Join us Friday morning at Central Lutheran in Van Nuys as we provide showers, hot meals, clothing, and supportive resources to our unhoused neighbors. This program creates a space of dignity, care, and connection where individuals can meet basic needs and experience a sense of support.

Why: Access to hygiene, nourishment, and clean clothing is foundational to physical health, mental well-being, and dignity. Your presence helps create a safe, respectful environment where neighbors feel seen, supported, and cared for — not rushed or overlooked. By showing up, you’re helping restore a sense of humanity and stability for those navigating extremely difficult circumstances.

Who: Central Lutheran strengthens the Van Nuys community through weekly food distributions (600–700 households), English classes, a community garden, vital resources, and our annual Joy Events—volunteer-powered celebrations that uplift and connect our neighbors.

What to Expect: This is a hands-on, team-based role in a compassionate, service-oriented environment. Volunteers help ensure the program runs smoothly, safely, and respectfully for all participants.

• Setting up and breaking down program areas
• Assisting with distribution of food and drinks
• Sorting and organizing clothing donations
• Supporting light maintenance and cleanliness of restroom/shower areas
• Helping monitor the space to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all

What's Required: Must be 18 years old or older

• Ability to stand and move for extended periods
• Comfortable lifting light to moderate weight (clothing bags and boxes up to approximately 25 lbs), though flexibility is available depending on assigned tasks
• A positive, respectful attitude toward diverse community members is essential
• Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively in a team environment
• Punctual and reliable — especially for volunteers committing to recurring shifts
• This is an active, primarily outdoor role requiring comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes
• Spanish language skills are highly valued but not required
