    Description

Center for Chronic Illness: Board of Directors Opportunity
    • *Please email us your resume and letter of interest when applying (see instructions below)

The Center for Chronic Illness (CCI) is seeking passionate, community-minded individuals to join our Board of Directors. We are especially interested in leaders who can contribute their time, expertise, and networks to advance our mission of providing support and education to those living with and impacted by chronic illness.

    About the Organization

CCI is a Seattle-based grassroots nonprofit organization with a national reach, serving individuals and families affected by chronic illness through free, professionally facilitated support groups and educational programs. Since our founding in 2016, we’ve steadily grown our impact and doubled our budget in recent years. We are now entering an exciting new phase focused on sustainability and capacity-building. We are actively recruiting new board members interested in helping to grow our network and fundraising capacity.

    Board Member Profile

We are seeking strategic, community-minded leaders who bring one or more of the following:

    • Commitment to CCI’s mission and an understanding of the challenges faced by those living with chronic illness
    • Time and energy to actively participate in board meetings, committees, and fundraising activities
    • Resources or connections that can help CCI strengthen its financial base through fundraising, sponsorships, or donor relationships
    • Leadership experience in governance, nonprofit growth, marketing, finance, health equity, or community engagement
    • Lived experience with chronic illness or as a caregiver (valued but not required)

We recognize the disproportionate impact of chronic illness on BIPOC and LGBTQ+ communities, and we are committed to embedding equity at every level of our organization, including our board. We especially encourage applications from individuals who bring lived experience with chronic illness and/or identities that are underrepresented in leadership.

    Benefits of Board Membership

As a member of CCI’s Board of Directors, you will:

    • Play a hands-on role in shaping the organization’s direction and sustainability
    • Gain leadership experience and expand your professional and philanthropic networks
    • Be part of a collaborative, mission-driven group of individuals committed to health equity and inclusion
    • Help build a strong future for an organization making a tangible impact on lives across the country

Please note: This is a volunteer board and there is no compensation for joining.

    Key Responsibilities

Board members play a key role in the long-term health of CCI by providing leadership, governance, and financial support.

    Board members are expected to:

    • Attend and actively participate in monthly board meetings (held virtually at 5:30 p.m. PST)
    • Serve on at least one committee (e.g., fundraising, board recruitment, marketing)
    • Contribute financially to CCI annually at a personally meaningful level
    • Help connect CCI with potential donors, sponsors, and community partners
    • Provide fiscal oversight and participate in strategic planning for the organization
    • Attend CCI events and invite others to attend and support them
    • Act as an ambassador for CCI in your community and professional networks

Board members serve an initial two-year term, renewable upon mutual agreement. CCI values transparency, flexibility, and respect for each board member’s life circumstances — we ask for consistent communication and good-faith participation, not perfection.
