    Description

Help Turn an Important Story Into a Powerful Article

The PSAR Initiative is looking for a volunteer developmental editor to take a completed article with excellent content and transform it into a polished, compelling piece.

This is much more than proofreading. We're looking for someone who enjoys shaping a story into its strongest possible form. You'll move sections into a better order, shape paragraphs, improve flow, shorten areas where appropriate, identify gaps, ask us for additional details when needed, and help create an article that readers will remember.

This is a one-time volunteer project with the possibility of future editing opportunities as we continue creating educational content.

    What You'll Do

    • Read and evaluate the entire article.
    • Reorganize sections into the strongest possible structure.
    • Shape and refine paragraphs for clarity and impact.
    • Shorten sections where appropriate while preserving the strongest content.
    • Improve flow, transitions, pacing, and readability.
    • Identify areas where additional details, examples, or clarification would strengthen the article.
    • Ask questions and collaborate with us throughout the editing process.
    • Edit for grammar, punctuation, consistency, and style.
    • Deliver a polished article ready for publication.

    We're Looking For Someone Who

    • Has experience with developmental editing, substantive editing, or professional editing.
    • Enjoys organizing complex information into a clear, engaging narrative.
    • Has excellent English writing and editing skills.
    • Has strong attention to detail.
    • Is comfortable working in Google Docs using Suggestions mode and comments.
    • Can complete the project within an agreed-upon timeframe.

    About the Project

The article supports the PSAR Initiative's mission of providing free outdoor education and preventive search and rescue resources to the public. Your work will help transform valuable information into an engaging article that can educate and benefit thousands of readers.

If you enjoy taking a draft with great ideas and turning it into an outstanding finished article, we'd love to hear from you.
