The Preventive Search and Rescue Initiative Inc. (PSAR Initiative) exists to make prevention the first priority outdoors. Our mission is simple: Plan · Prepare · Prevent.

Plan: Encourage thoughtful planning so trips are safe and sustainable.

Prepare: Promote readiness with the right knowledge and gear.

Prevent:

• Prevent emergencies and injuries
• Prevent environmental damage
• Prevent closures of public lands
• Prevent isolation from nature by encouraging connection through the outdoors

We believe prevention is the most effective way to save lives, protect the places we love, and make the outdoors welcoming to all.

Whom we serve:

• The 80 percent of people who are new to hiking or casual hikers (the group most at risk of injury or getting lost).
• Families, youth, and communities who want to connect with nature but may not have formal training.
• Experienced hikers who want to lead chapters, share skills, and strengthen the prevention movement.
