    Description

My Seniors Keeper Foundation (MSK) hosts weekly Volunteer Days at its Applied Research Urban Farm, a community-based space dedicated to food production, environmental learning, and workforce development.

This is not a traditional volunteer site. The farm operates as a living, working environment where volunteers contribute to real projects that support food access, sustainability, and neighborhood resilience. Every workday is connected to a broader purpose, whether that is growing food for the community, improving soil health, or supporting training pathways for future workforce participants.

Volunteer Days are open to individuals, families, and community members who are willing to learn, work, and contribute alongside others in a structured but welcoming environment.

    WHAT VOLUNTEERS DO

Volunteer activities vary by day and season, but may include:

    • Planting, harvesting, and maintaining crops
    • Preparing and restoring garden beds
    • Supporting composting and soil-building efforts
    • Assisting with general site upkeep and project work
    • Participating in hands-on learning around urban agriculture systems

Volunteers are guided by staff and experienced participants and are encouraged to ask questions and engage with the work.

    WHAT YOU GAIN

Volunteering with MSK provides more than service hours. Participants gain:

    • Exposure to urban agriculture and sustainable practices
    • Practical, hands-on experience working with soil and food systems
    • A deeper understanding of community-based food access efforts
    • Connection to MSK’s workforce development pathway (Hustlaz 2 Harvesters)
    • A sense of contribution to a space designed for long-term community impact

    THE ENVIRONMENT

The Applied Research Urban Farm is a working space rooted in collaboration, respect, and shared effort. The environment is structured but not rigid, with a focus on learning through doing.

Volunteers should be prepared for outdoor work in varying conditions and should come ready to participate with a positive and cooperative attitude.
