About the Organization
Pure Aid Incorporated (PAI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving lives through programs and services in areas including health, education, community development, social support, and humanitarian initiatives. We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Volunteer Accountant to support our financial management systems and strengthen organizational accountability.
Position Summary
The Volunteer Accountant will assist the organization in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting compliance processes, preparing financial reports, and improving accounting procedures. This role offers an opportunity to contribute professional expertise toward mission-driven work while gaining nonprofit experience and leadership exposure.
Key Responsibilities
The Volunteer Accountant will support the following functions:
Financial Management
- Maintain and update accounting records and financial transactions.
- Assist with bookkeeping activities and account reconciliation.
- Review income, expenses, donations, grants, and program expenditures.
- Support preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports.
- Monitor budgets and assist in expense tracking.
Compliance and Documentation
- Assist with financial documentation and record retention.
- Support compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and policies.
- Help prepare information needed for audits, grant reporting, and regulatory filings.
- Ensure financial records are organized and maintained appropriately.
Budgeting and Planning
- Assist with development of organizational and project budgets.
- Support financial forecasting and cash flow monitoring.
- Provide recommendations for improving financial controls and efficiency.
- Participate in financial planning discussions when required.
Systems and Process Improvement
- Help establish or strengthen accounting procedures.
- Recommend accounting software improvements and financial workflows.
- Assist with development of internal controls and risk management practices.
Collaboration
- Work with executive leadership, finance committee members, and program staff.
- Participate in meetings as necessary.
- Provide financial guidance within assigned responsibilities.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; or
- Current student pursuing accounting, finance, MBA, or related studies; or
- Equivalent practical accounting experience.
- Knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, spreadsheets, and financial documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with nonprofit accounting.
- Knowledge of grant management and donor reporting.
- Familiarity with accounting software such as:
- QuickBooks
- Xero
- Wave Accounting
- ERPNext
- CPA certification, bookkeeping certification, or finance credentials (preferred but not required).
- Experience supporting audits or financial reviews.
