    Description

    ELEVATE Task Force

We at SLAY Loans are excited to expand our opportunities for involvement with the ELEVATE Task Force! Here, we’ve detailed some general information about SLAY and specific information about ELEVATE. More information can be found on our website, slayloans.org, or by contacting us at info(at)slayloans.org. Be sure to include “ELEVATE” in the subject of your email! Questions can also be submitted as part of your application.

    SLAY Loans

SLAY is a California-based nonprofit that offers fixed-amount, zero-interest microloans in support of the LGBTQ+ community. SLAY exists to expand access to essential resources, build collective power and wealth, and create opportunities for LGBTQ+ adults, youth, and families.

Through a queer-led, zero-interest lending model rooted in mutual aid, reciprocity, and abundance, we’re creating a community-powered system of care that supports long-term wellbeing and economic liberation.

What is the ELEVATE Task Force?

ELEVATE is a group of community-rooted volunteers who will collaborate with SLAY’s Board of Directors to expand SLAY’s impact in the San Francisco Bay Area. This includes forming meaningful connections with community partners, maximizing opportunities for outreach and engagement (e.g., events), and generally publicizing SLAY’s opportunities to potential recipients. ELEVATE’s main responsibility at this stage is to recruit loan applicants, and, later, to evaluate applicants and engage recipients. We are searching for the founding members of ELEVATE.

What is the commitment for ELEVATE?

Approximately 10 hours a month, including:

    • 4-6 full meetings a year
      • At least two in-person meetings annually, but typically meeting via Zoom.
    • Reading and responding to email in a timely manner (typically 2 to 3 business days, from the end of day when an email was sent)
    • Working with ELEVATE members to reach our participant goals
    • Conducting outreach (emails, calls, research) on a monthly basis, and in-person outreach (site visits, event tabling) every quarter.

Each ELEVATE committee member signs an agreement that further details what the organization needs and what support the organization provides ELEVATE members.

What does it mean to be part of the ELEVATE committee?

    • ELEVATE is comprised of volunteers who are committed to the success of SLAY’s mission (in support of the LGBTQ+ community).
    • ELEVATE is a 1-year commitment, with a 3-month probationary period. Once approved after the probationary period, we have funding in 2026 for a $1000 stipend, paid half at 6 months, and half at 12 months. Terms are renewable with the approval of SLAY’s Board of Directors.
    • ELEVATE members are eligible to serve as committee leadership. The first committee leaders will be Board-appointed. Subsequent leaders will be elected by ELEVATE and approved by the Board.
    • ELEVATE members have community connections in the San Francisco Bay Area or an interest in making and maintaining such connections.
    • ELEVATE members are comfortable with tried-and-true community outreach activities, such as cold-calling, cold-emailing, and tabling.

SLAY is looking for passionate volunteers who:

    • Share our values of Reciprocity, Accessibility, Community, Liberation, and Rebalancing.
    • Have experience and/or interest in community outreach and networking, and share a sense of accountability to the LGBTQ+ community.
    • Have lived or have professional experience with the LGBTQ+ community in the fields of health care, finances, social justice work, performing arts, and education, among others.
    • Maintain high professional standards of confidentiality and ethical conduct.
    • Are creative and eager to develop new approaches to outreach and networking.
    • Provide focus, perspective, and/or ingenuity.
    • Learn from experiences, apply insights, and overcome obstacles.
    • Are proactive communicators, responsible, and motivated and able to commit time consistently.
    • Collaborate, connect, and build teams, by contributing to group conversations, making/receiving delegation, and following through on asynchronous action items.
