Board Secretary for Legacy Paws Rescue

Project Overview

Legacy Paws Rescue is a veteran founded dog rescue and sanctuary on five acres in Catawba, North Carolina. We're in the middle of building a real board of directors for the first time, and we need someone to keep the official record straight while we do it. This is the Board Secretary role: minutes, meeting records, correspondence, and making sure the paperwork behind our decisions actually lives where it's supposed to.

What You'd Actually Be Doing

• Attend board meetings (remote) and take accurate minutes
• Distribute agendas and minutes to board members before and after each meeting
• Maintain the official record: bylaws, meeting minutes, board roster, resolutions
• Track action items and follow up so nothing falls through the cracks between meetings
• Support the board chair with meeting logistics and scheduling
• Help keep our governance documents current as the board grows

Why This Matters

I started Legacy Paws alone. No team, no board, no budget, just five acres and dogs nobody else wanted. I'm still the one making the calls that matter, which dog goes where, which family is actually the right fit, and I can't be the one holding the paperwork together too. We've got four board seats filled and an interim board chair in place, we're working on our bylaws right now, and we're building this the right way instead of the fast way. I need someone who finds real satisfaction in keeping a record straight, because that structure is what lets me keep doing the part only I can do.

How We've Prepared

• Board development is being guided by an experienced professional, so this isn't a first-time board finding its footing alone
• Bylaws and governance documents are underway
• You'd be working directly with our interim board chair and founder, not guessing at what's needed

Legacy Paws Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit (EIN 33-2211382) founded in January 2025 by Domenica Robbins, a U.S. Air Force veteran and former psychiatric registered nurse. We're a home sanctuary, not a kennel, for dogs other rescues call too aggressive, too broken, or too much.
