    Description

St. Mark Community Education Program (SMCEP) runs ESOL and citizenship classes. Our mission is to help immigrants acquire the skills and citizenship status necessary to thrive, enrich their communities, and fully participate in society.

In addition to our classes, we also run conversation groups that provide an opportunity for students with a moderate level of English to increase their vocabulary, learn American idioms and slang, and develop greater fluency.

Each group meets weekly for an hour. Weekday classes run from 6 PM to 7 PM. We may also have a Saturday morning option.

We are seeking motivated volunteers to serve as Conversation Group Facilitators. These are remote volunteer positions and training will be provided. We welcome seniors, retirees, corporate volunteers, students, and other interested parties to apply.

    Tasks include:

    • Sending weekly reminder emails to group participants
    • Preparing content (e.g. conversation prompts) for each weekly session
    • Encouraging and facilitating discussions (and helping to make those discussions a learning experience)
    • Filling out a weekly attendance sheet

    Requirements:

    • Ability to operate Zoom
    • A willingness to commit for at least 6 months
    • A time commitment of approximately 2.5 hours per week (this includes prep time)

We’d love to have you join our vibrant team! If interested, please use this link to apply directly through our website: https://www.stmarksesol.org/volunteer-application
