    Description

Be There When Your Community Needs You Most!

A home fire can change a family's life in an instant. In the days that follow, many families may not know where to turn for help or that the American Red Cross offers disaster assistance.

    That's where you come in!

The American Red Cross Los Angeles Region is seeking compassionate, community-minded volunteers to join our Local Incident Follow-up Team (LIFT). As a LIFT volunteer, you'll help bridge the gap between families affected by home fires and the Red Cross resources available to support them.

    What You'll Do

    • Connect with Families: Visit homes recently impacted by fires, typically within the past week, to help ensure residents are aware of available Red Cross assistance.
    • Share Important Information: Distribute informational door hangers and explain how residents can contact the Red Cross for support.
    • Provide Compassionate Outreach: Engage with residents when possible, offering reassurance and information during a challenging time.
    • Offer Comfort Items: Provide immediate comfort items when appropriate and available.
    • Support Your Community: Help ensure that families who have not yet connected with Red Cross Dispatch know how to access assistance.

    Who We're Looking For

We're looking for volunteers who are:

    • Compassionate, dependable, and passionate about helping others.
    • Comfortable communicating with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
    • Able to approach sensitive situations with empathy and professionalism.
    • Comfortable conducting community outreach and visiting affected neighborhoods.
    • Willing to work collaboratively with other Red Cross volunteers.
    • Interested in disaster relief, humanitarian services, or community engagement.

No previous disaster response experience is necessary! The American Red Cross provides training to help prepare volunteers for their roles.

    Flexible Volunteer Opportunity

LIFT visits are conducted on Tuesdays and Thursdays during daytime hours, making this a great opportunity for individuals looking to make a meaningful impact while balancing other commitments.

Volunteers conduct outreach in teams of at least two Red Cross volunteers. You do not need to be a trained Disaster Action Team (DAT) responder to participate.

    Why Volunteer With LIFT?

    • Make a direct difference in the lives of families affected by home fires.
    • Help connect underserved and disaster-impacted households with important resources.
    • Gain valuable experience in community outreach and disaster services.
    • Develop communication, teamwork, and humanitarian service skills.
    • Join a dedicated network of Red Cross volunteers making a difference throughout Los Angeles County.

Sometimes, making a difference is as simple as showing up and letting someone know they're not alone.

Join the Local Incident Follow-up Team and help ensure that families affected by disasters know where to turn for support.
