Description
The AHope Day Center is a low barrier service for humans experiencing homelessness in Asheville NC that is open to clients from 8am to 1pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 8am to 11:30pm on Wednesdays.
We are in need of hospitality desk volunteers that can ideally commit to a weekly schedule. Shifts can be from 8am to 1pm or shifts can be shorter such as 8am to 12pm or 11am to 2pm.
Duties
- Hand out towels, washcloths and shower related toiletries for clients signed up to shower
- Hand out other toiletries like chapstick, deodorant, lotion as requested from clients
- Give out over the counter medications as asked like ibuprofen and antiacids
- Give out first aid items like bandages, triple antibiotic cream, and peroxide as asked
- Assist staff in washing laundry as it becomes available from showers
- Fold and put away clean laundry
- Help clients to access their lockers as requested
- Tidy the desk area throughout the day
- Clean and reset the shower, locker, and laundry spaces at the end of services

AHope Day Center
Directions
You can park in the Firestone parking lot across the street from the building. If you are coming early in the day, there may be a line of clients. You can either politely ask them to allow you past or you can come to the back door behind the building to have staff let you in. If you are having trouble you can call the Assistant Director of Homeless Services. Her phone number will be provided after you apply.
