    Organization: Mentor A Promise (MAP)

    Location: Remote with NYC-based collaboration as needed

    Commitment: Approximately 5–10 hours per week

    Type: Volunteer Leadership Role

    Minimum Commitment: 6-month commitment required

    About Mentor A Promise

    Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a NYC-based nonprofit organization serving children and youth ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability through mentorship, literacy, social-emotional learning, educational enrichment, workforce development, creative opportunity, housing innovation, advocacy, and community-centered support.

    As MAP continues to grow, strong leadership coordination becomes essential to ensuring that strategic priorities are executed effectively and that teams remain aligned around the organization's mission.

    Role Overview

    The Chief of Staff serves as a strategic partner and operational extension of an assigned Chief or Senior Leader.

    This role helps increase leadership effectiveness by supporting planning, execution, communication, project coordination, and organizational follow-through.

    The Chief of Staff works closely with their assigned leader to help manage priorities, coordinate initiatives, facilitate collaboration, track progress, and ensure that important projects continue moving forward.

    This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy organizing complex initiatives, supporting leaders, improving systems, and transforming ideas into action.

    Potential Assignments

    A Chief of Staff may be assigned to support:

    • Chief of Content & Storytelling
    • Chief Product & Technology Officer
    • Chief of Advocacy, Policy & Public Engagement
    • Chief Human Resources Officer
    • Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel
    • Chief of Education, Curriculum & Learning
    • Chief of Digital Governance & Infrastructure
    • Chief Marketing & Brand Officer
    • Chief Measurement & Impact Officer

    Key Responsibilities

    Leadership Support

    • Serve as a trusted strategic partner to an assigned Chief or Senior Leader
    • Assist with departmental planning and execution
    • Help organize priorities and strategic initiatives
    • Support leadership decision-making through coordination and research
    • Maintain visibility across key departmental activities

    Project & Initiative Management

    • Track departmental projects and strategic initiatives
    • Monitor milestones, deliverables, and timelines
    • Coordinate follow-up actions and accountability measures
    • Help identify and address operational bottlenecks
    • Support successful execution of leadership priorities

    Meeting & Communications Management

    • Coordinate departmental leadership meetings
    • Develop agendas and meeting materials
    • Document action items and key decisions
    • Prepare summaries, reports, and updates
    • Support communication across teams and stakeholders

    Cross-Functional Collaboration

    • Facilitate collaboration across divisions and departments
    • Support cross-functional initiatives and projects
    • Coordinate information sharing among teams
    • Help strengthen organizational alignment and communication

    Organizational Effectiveness

    • Improve systems, workflows, and operational processes
    • Support strategic planning efforts
    • Assist with dashboard development and progress tracking
    • Promote accountability and execution across leadership initiatives

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience in project management, operations, business administration, nonprofit leadership, consulting, communications, organizational development, or related fields
    • Strong organizational and time-management skills
    • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities
    • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
    • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
    • High level of professionalism, discretion, and judgment
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
