Description
The Global Cultural Exchange Program is built on a simple idea: that students from different countries have so much to learn from one another, if only they had the chance to connect. Run by Save the Youth, a student-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the program pairs U.S. mentors one-on-one with students in Korea and brings them together each week to share their language, perspective, and daily life as equals.
How it works:
- You are matched one-on-one with a student in grades 7 through 12 in Korea
- You meet weekly for about one hour over Google Meet
- Each session is centered on cultural exchange, sharing your daily life and learning about theirs, while helping your student build English fluency and confidence
What we value:
- Cultural understanding built through honest, personal connection
- Student leadership, since the program is run entirely by students
- Accessibility, since everything is online and open to mentors anywhere in the country
Why join:
- Fully remote, so you can make an impact from anywhere with just one hour a week
- Earn 45 verified service hours through x2VOL upon completing a term
- Build a real, lasting friendship with a peer across the world, not just check a box
- Be part of something meaningful from the ground up, as we are still growing
Qualifications:
- Currently a high school student in the U.S.
- Comfortable speaking English (native or fluent)
- Reliable access to a computer and internet for weekly video sessions
- Able to commit about one hour per week for 8 weeks
- No prior teaching or tutoring experience required
Responsibilities:
- Meet one-on-one with your matched student each week over Google Meet
- Lead relaxed conversations that share culture and daily life while building your student's English fluency and confidence
- Communicate consistently and reschedule promptly when needed
- Complete a short feedback survey at the end of the term
