    Description

    Computer Lab Assistant

    Position Title: Computer Lab Assistant Work Hours: 2-4hours per week | Flexible schedule

    Supervisor: Community Engagement Coordinator Team: CfWE Team

    Classification: Volunteer Duration: 3 month commitment preferred

    Role Overview:

    The Volunteer Computer Lab Technician supports the day-to-day operations of the computer lab, helping to maintain hardware, software, and ensure a smooth user experience for lab patrons. This position is ideal for individuals with a passion for technology and helping others, particularly in educational, nonprofit, or community settings.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Assist with setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of lab computers and equipment

    Install and update software applications as needed

    Monitor and report technical issues to IT or supervisors

    Ensure all workstations are clean, functional, and ready for use

    Provide basic technical support to lab users (e.g., printing, logging in, using software)

    Maintain a welcoming, safe, and productive environment for all users

    Support instructors or facilitators during lab-based workshops or classes

    Help enforce lab rules and acceptable use policies

    Qualifications:

    Basic knowledge of computer hardware, Windows/macOS operating systems, and common applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, web browsers)

    Ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues

    Strong interpersonal and communication skills

    Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently

    Prior experience in IT, tech support, or help desk roles is a plus (but not required)

    Commitment to providing respectful and patient assistance to users of all skill levels

    Training & Support:

      • Volunteers will receive orientation and ongoing support from staff
      • Outreach materials and talking points will be provided
      • Opportunities for leadership, professional development, and letters of recommendation are available
