    Description

    Become an AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP Volunteer and serve with the Children's Hospital - You must be age 55 or over.

    Customer Service Role

    OBJECTIVE:

    • To assist with wayfinding throughout the hospital
    • To assist with deliveries from outside vendors to the various areas of the hospital
    • To assist the gift shop with deliveries to the inpatient units

    QUALIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES:

    • Possession and demonstration of excellent customer service skills
    • Willingness to learn hospital campus, stay helpful and busy during your shift, and approach and guide our patients and families using hospital guide and fellow volunteers.
    • Attention to detail for deliveries to patients and families

    TRAINING DONE ON-SITE BY DEPARTMENT:

    • Orientation to the Customer Service position by Patient Navigators
    • Gift Shop orientation (including delivery procedures and protocols) to be completed by Gift Shop Staff
    • BOUNDARIES (do’s and don’ts):
    • Follow hospital guidance regarding patient inquiries and respecting confidential information.
    • Treat Gift Shop customers respectfully and politely.
    • Volunteers should not escort patients and families to the parking garage
    • Volunteers should not discuss a patient’s condition or verbalize assumptions or opinions on patient conditions or visitor inquires.

    EXPLAIN THE DAILY PRINCIPAL DUTIES OF THE VOLUNTEER IN DETAIL:

    • Assist with wayfinding throughout the hospital
    • Complete online and phone order purchase deliveries to patient rooms from the Gift Shop
    • Assist with deliveries to patient and families from outside vendors
    • Respond to phone calls via Spectralink phone for inquiries
    • Assisting the Center for Families as needed

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    • Standing for an extended period of time
    • Lifting up to 20 pounds

    COMPETENCIES:

    1. Interpersonal communication skills
    2. Ability to accept and respect cultural difference
    3. Ability to move throughout the hospital independently
    4. Skill following instructions

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Ability to work independently
    2. Ability to exercise patience and understanding in stressful situations
    3. Ability to communicate clearly to others and understand instructions
