    Description

From Testing To Graduation—Become a Volunteer Tutor at The Learning Center

    Mission-Driven

The Learning Center (TLC) is a nonprofit that has supported adult learners in Chicago’s Little Village and North Lawndale communities for more than 43 years.

Our mission is to help adults strengthen their reading, math, social studies, science and conversational English skills, so they can build more confidence, independence, and opportunities in their everyday lives. Our programs are built around the work of our volunteer tutors, who work closely with students in literacy, GED preparation, and English as a Second Language.

Guide Adult Learners in Earning their High School Equivalency (commonly known as GED) Diploma

We’re seeking volunteers who can spend a weekday morning, making an impact in our adult learners’ lives. We’re in need of Reading Volunteer Tutors who can support adult learners in preparing them for these three (3) specific HiSET/GED subject areas, in addition, to tutoring them in reading, in order for them to pass each subject and graduate at the finish line:

    1. Social Studies
    2. Science
    3. Writing

All of our volunteer tutors work alongside an instructor and the volunteer coordinator. As a volunteer tutor, you’ll support adult learners to grow their reading skills while providing focused one-on-one tutoring in the key subject areas above.

You don’t need any prior tutoring experience! If you have a positive attitude, a willingness to learn, an interest for social studies, science, or writing, you’re ready to help adult learners reach their HiSET/GED goals and graduate with a high school diploma.

We’ll provide all the training and materials you need to feel confident and successful as a volunteer tutor.
