Description
The Musician Coordinator is a volunteer role that helps bring a welcoming, community-focused atmosphere to the market through live acoustic music. Because the market operates without a music budget, this coordinator recruits volunteer musicians willing to perform family-friendly music that is within the public domain or original works suitable for an all-ages community event.
Responsibilities
- Recruit and communicate with volunteer musicians and small acoustic acts
- Schedule musicians for weekly market dates and special events
- Maintain a simple performance calendar and contact list
- Explain market music guidelines and expectations to performers
- Encourage performances featuring:
- Public domain music
- Traditional folk music
- Classical music
- Original compositions
- Coordinate basic performer logistics such as arrival time, performance location, and setup needs
- Ensure performances remain family-friendly and appropriate for a public community setting
- Help promote musicians through market social media and announcements when possible
- Serve as the main point of contact for musician-related questions
Preferred Qualifications
- Friendly and organized with good communication skills
- Interest in local music, arts, and community events
- Comfortable reaching out to musicians, schools, churches, and community groups
- Basic scheduling or volunteer coordination experience is helpful but not required
- Appreciation for acoustic, folk, instrumental, or traditional music styles
Music Guidelines
Because the market is volunteer-run and has no music licensing budget:
- Performers must play music that is in the public domain or original music they have created
- Music must be suitable for all ages and maintain a positive market atmosphere
- Acoustic or low-volume performances are preferred
Time Commitment
- Flexible volunteer position
- Approximately 1–3 hours per week during market season
- Some additional time may be needed before opening day or special events
