Help Philly students in a WePAC school library!
Details
Description
The West Philadelphia Alliance for Children (WePAC) operates public elementary school libraries throughout West Philadelphia: from Parkside to Powelton, from Cobbs Creek to Wynnefield through a network of trained volunteers. Each school has the library staffed with volunteers 1-2 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays during regular school hours.
Volunteering in a WePAC partner school library means being a part of a team of caring people passionate about sharing the love of reading with the children of West Philadelphia. Together, each library team plans read aloud sessions that support classroom learning. Central to these programs are check out times for children to explore the library and pick a book to borrow.
We see classes on a regular basis, coordinated with each school’s schedule. We hold our library programs in the school libraries that we maintain. We are responsible for the appearance and organization of our libraries. We decorate the library, check books in and out and reshelve books. We draw on the diverse skills of our team to nurture literacy in our students.
