    Make an Impact Through Stewardship

    We are seeking a Volunteer Bookkeeper / Accounting Support to help steward the financial resources of Dorcas Destiny International, a nonprofit ministry based in Freeport, IL serving children and women in Kenya, East Africa. This behind-the-scenes role is essential to ensuring integrity, transparency, and excellence in how we manage and report our finances.

    What You’ll Do

    • Record and categorize financial transactions (donations, expenses, reimbursements)
    • Maintain accurate and organized bookkeeping records
    • Reconcile bank and credit card statements monthly
    • Prepare simple financial summaries for ministry leadership
    • Assist with budget tracking and expense monitoring
    • Support documentation needs for audits or annual nonprofit filings (as applicable)

    Who We’re Looking For

    • Experience with bookkeeping, accounting, or finance (professional or volunteer)
    • Familiarity with accounting software (QuickBooks, Wave, or similar preferred)
    • Detail-oriented, reliable, and highly trustworthy
    • Comfortable working independently with periodic check-ins
    • Experience with church or nonprofit finances is a plus, but not required

    Instructions:

    We currently use Aplos software as our accounting system, but your first priority would be to research, review, and recommend a different system. Our former Treasurer is not an accountant, so your second priority will be to migrate our existing records over to the new system.

    Our only paid staff are in Kenya, not in the US, so you will be a tremendous blessing to us if this is something you can commit to for a time.
