The Head of Strategy at OpenGov Africa works at the forefront of partnerships, visibility, and growth; engaging with global opportunities that advance our mission across the continent. To support this, we are seeking a highly proactive and detail-oriented Executive Assistant.
This is not a traditional administrative role as it goes beyond logistics & coordination. You will take ownership of actively sourcing, preparing, and submitting high-impact applications; including grants, fellowships, visa applications and speaking engagements; on behalf of the Head of Strategy.
You will act as a high-trust Executive Assistant, supporting strategic priorities and ensuring the Head of Strategy can focus on high-impact opportunities, while you ensure seamless coordination of travel and priorities. Your work will directly influence how OpenGov Africa shows up on global stages.
What You’ll Do
- Identify and track relevant grants, fellowships, and speaking opportunities
- Prepare, draft, and support submissions for applications and proposals
- Manage the Head of Strategy’s calendar, priorities, and key deadlines
- Plan and coordinate travel logistics (flights, accommodation, itineraries, documentation)
- Draft and edit strategic communications (emails, applications, outreach)
- Maintain an organized pipeline of opportunities, applications, and outcomes
- Conduct research to support partnerships, positioning, and decision-making
- Track action items and ensure timely follow-through across engagements
- Anticipate needs and proactively resolve scheduling or logistical challenges
What We’re Looking For
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
- Strong writing ability, especially for applications, proposals, and professional communication
- Ability to manage multiple high-stakes deadlines with attention to detail
- Discretion in handling sensitive and high-level information
- Familiarity with tools like Google Workspace, Discord, and willingness to learn GitHub
- A proactive mindset with the ability to think ahead and take initiative
- Interest in governance, civic tech, global development, or Africa-focused work
