    Description

    About Community Cycles of California

Community Cycles of California is a nonprofit social enterprise that uses bicycles as a tool for economic opportunity, mobility, and dignity. We operate a bicycle service center and retail shop that doubles as a workforce development classroom, where participants gain transferable job skills while refurbishing donated bikes. Revenue from our social enterprise supports community programs, including free and low-cost bikes, safety repairs, and access to essential transportation for unhoused and low-income neighbors.

At our core, we believe everyone deserves access to mobility, meaningful work, and a supportive community—and we’re looking for a volunteer who resonates with that mission and wants to help us tell our story more clearly online.

    About the Volunteer Role

We are seeking a volunteer to help redesign and update our existing website, which is built on the Wix platform. Our goal is to create an intuitive, mobile-friendly, and search-optimized website so community members, clients, donors, and partners can more easily find information about our services and programs.

This is a great opportunity for:

    • A web professional willing to donate time to a mission-driven nonprofit organization
    • An experienced designer or developer launching a new business and looking to build their portfolio
    • A Wix-savvy creative who enjoys improving usability and accessibility

    What You’ll Help With

Depending on your skills and interests, support may include:

    • Reviewing and improving website architecture and navigation
    • Refreshing visual design for clarity, accessibility, and brand alignment
    • Improving site design to clearly reflect the three pillars of our business: retail sales, community programs, and workforce development
    • Improving mobile responsiveness and user experience
    • Refining SEO to help clients and supporters find us more easily
    • Offering strategic guidance on best practices for nonprofit websites

Skills & Experience We’re Looking For

We don’t expect one person to have everything—we’re happy to talk with candidates who bring some of these skills and are excited to learn or collaborate on the rest:

    • Experience designing or managing websites on Wix
    • Knowledge of website architecture and user experience (UX)
    • Intermediate to advanced SEO knowledge
    • Mobile-first or responsive design experience
    • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
    • Familiarity of ADA requirement for website accessibility
    • Interest in social impact, nonprofits, or community-based work

    What You’ll Gain

    • The chance to make a tangible impact for a community-centered nonprofit
    • A portfolio-worthy project (we’re happy to provide references or testimonials)
    • Flexible schedule and remote collaboration
    • A deeper connection to a mission-driven organization using business as a force for good

    How to Get Involved

If you’re interested, we’d love to hear from you—even if you don’t meet every qualification listed. Please reach out with a brief introduction, a link to your portfolio or examples of past work (if available), and what excites you about this opportunity.
