    Volunteer Opportunity in Lesvos, Greece : Workshops facilitator

    Terra Psy – Psychologues Sans Frontières (Psychologists Without Borders) is a French non profit organization founded in 2004 and based in Le Havre. It is dedicated to providing psychological support to vulnerable populations in France and abroad.

    PROGRAM OVERVIEW - LESVOS, GREECE

    → Context : A multidisciplinary team (psychologists, educator, social workers..) trained in issues related to displacement and trauma care, operates near the Mavrovouni camp to provide psychological and psychosocial support to displaced families and women.

    → Activities : Every day, the team offers, with the help of cultural mediators o Individual or family psychological support for children, parents, and single women. o Children’s workshops using various creative and expressive methods (arts and crafts, games, dance, music, etc.), creating a space to develop social skills, emotional regulation, psychomotor skills, etc.

    o Workshops and support groups for parents to create a space of trust, sharing, and parenting support.

    o Parent-child activities to support parents to engage in playful interactions with their children.

    Workshops are designed collaboratively and adapted to the skills and interests of the volunteers. They are aligned with therapeutic goals and followed by clinical debriefs with the psychologist.

    → Team : 6 to 8 people : 1 MHPSS coordinator and psychologist, 1 program coordinator, 3 cultural mediators (Farsi, Arabic, Turkish and Somali), 4 to 6 psychologist and non psychologist volunteers.

    → Recruitment : The team is currently seeking

    o Psychologist volunteers to run workshops and conduct consultations (separate job description available).

    o Volunteers for fundraising and communication (separate job description available).

    o Volunteers to facilitate workshops (job description below).

    ❖ Responsibilities :

    o Facilitate psychosocial workshops for children, parents, parent-child groups, and women.

    o Team debriefs

    o Conducting surveys

    o You may also choose to contribute to the creation of educational tools or support communication efforts (e.g. creating content, social media outreach, etc.).

    o Other tasks, aligned with the organisation’s goals and the needs of the team and beneficiaries, may be discussed.

    ❖ Profile :

    Workshop facilitators, people with significant experience in an artistic or sports discipline, or a professional background in the psycho-social or medical field (e.g. educator, nurse, psychomotor therapist, psychologist, social worker, etc.).

    Volunteers receive training on topics such as clinical issues related to displacement, psychological trauma, and developmental psychology. They are also supported in designing and facilitating workshops. Previous experience in these areas is recommended.

    ❖ Skills and values required :

    o Humanistic approach

    o Independent and proactive

    o Team work (collaborative, communication skills, mutual support …)

    o Comfortable facilitating group activities

    o A good level of English is mandatory to work with cultural mediators. Knowledge in farsi or Arabic would be of great value.

    ❖ Conditions :

    The volunteer mission is based on free and voluntary engagement. The volunteer is not subject to any hierarchical authority and maintains independence in the organization of their tasks, in alignment with the organisation’s goals and program.

    The minimum duration of the engagement is 2 months.

    No financial compensation is provided. Meals are provided at lunch time on workdays.
