    Description

    Position Overview

    The Volunteer Basketball Coordinator supports Playmakers’ adaptive basketball program, which provides athletes with special needs the opportunity to participate in a structured, inclusive, and encouraging team environment. This role works directly with athletes with a wide range of physical and developmental abilities and helps ensure practices run safely, smoothly, and in a way that supports each athlete’s individual needs.

    The Volunteer Basketball Coordinator assists with leading warm-ups and stretches, facilitating drills, and providing hands-on support and encouragement to athletes throughout each practice. This position also supports the continued growth of the program by helping coordinate with the Volunteer Coordinator and identifying potential volunteers who would be a strong fit for your team.

    This role plays an important part in helping athletes build confidence, develop skills, and have a positive and meaningful sports experience.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Assist with coordinating weekly adaptive basketball practices
    • Lead group warm-ups and stretching exercises
    • Support and help facilitate basketball drills and activities
    • Provide individualized support to athletes based on their ability level
    • Help create a safe, structured, and inclusive environment for all participants
    • Encourage athlete participation, teamwork, and confidence
    • Assist with setup and cleanup of equipment before and after practices
    • Collaborate with coaches, volunteers, and program leadership
    • Communicate and coordinate with the Volunteer Coordinator regarding program needs
    • Help identify, recommend, and connect potential new volunteers who would be a positive addition to the program

    Qualifications

    • Interest in working with individuals with special needs
    • Positive attitude, patience, and reliability
    • Comfortable leading basic stretches and assisting with group activities
    • Strong communication and teamwork skills
    • Leadership and initiative in supporting program needs
    • Basketball experience is helpful but not required

    Volunteer Basketball Coordinators play a vital role in supporting Playmakers’ mission by helping create a positive, inclusive, and well-organized basketball program where athletes of all abilities can participate, grow, and succeed.
