    Description

Bernie’s Rescue Crew is a volunteer-run, foster-based dog rescue serving the Greater Cincinnati area. We work to save dogs from overcrowded shelters, rehoming situations, and—eventually—cruelty or hoarding cases. We are a small but growing nonprofit committed to compassion, community, and second chances.

We are seeking a dedicated Volunteer Grant Writer to help us secure funding that directly supports the medical care, supplies, and training our dogs need on their way to forever homes.

    Responsibilities

    • Research and identify grant opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources
    • Write clear, compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and supporting documents
    • Maintain a calendar of deadlines and ensure timely submission
    • Collaborate with the rescue team to gather necessary program details, financial information, and impact data
    • Assist with developing templates and language we can reuse for future applications
    • Track submitted grants, outcomes, and reporting requirements
    • Provide recommendations on additional funding opportunities and fundraising strategies

    Qualifications

    • Prior experience in grant writing, fundraising, nonprofit development, or professional writing (preferred but not required)
    • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail
    • Ability to meet deadlines and work independently
    • Research skills and the ability to understand eligibility/criteria
    • Passion for animal welfare and alignment with Bernie’s Rescue Crew’s mission
    • Willingness to collaborate with a small, enthusiastic volunteer team

    Time Commitment

    • Flexible; approximately 3–5 hours per week
    • Remote—work from anywhere
    • Occasional virtual check-ins with the rescue’s leadership team

    What You’ll Gain

    • The opportunity to make a direct and measurable impact on dogs in need
    • Experience working with a young, growing 501(c)(3) rescue
    • Portfolio pieces for future career or nonprofit work
    • A supportive and appreciative team that truly values your contribution
    • Lots of virtual dog photos and updates to remind you why your work matters 🐾
