    Role Summary:

    The Volunteer Subject Matter Expert, Carbon Project Development will provide technical expertise in the design, development, and implementation of carbon projects. This role ensures that carbon initiatives are scientifically robust, compliant with standards, and aligned with our mission by guiding methodologies, project frameworks, and scalable climate impact strategies.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Design and support the development of carbon projects, including afforestation, reforestation, and soil carbon initiatives.
    • Provide guidance on carbon standards and methodologies (e.g., Verra, Gold Standard) to ensure compliance and credibility.
    • Support project feasibility assessments, including baseline analysis, additionality, and permanence considerations.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate carbon strategies into broader climate and NbS programs.
    • Identify risks, opportunities, and innovations in carbon markets and project development approaches.

    Requirements:

    • Background in environmental science, climate science, forestry, or a related field.
    • Experience in carbon project development, carbon markets, or climate mitigation projects.
    • Strong understanding of carbon accounting methodologies and project lifecycle processes.
    • Ability to interpret and communicate technical and scientific information effectively.

    Preferred Skills:

    • Familiarity with MRV (Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification) frameworks.
    • Experience with carbon registries and certification processes.
    • Experience working on nonprofit, environmental, or impact-driven projects.
